Shedding Tears for Strangers  I never served in the military. Before my son unexpectedly volunteered for the Marines, I was busy writing my novels and raising my family, and giving little thought to the men and women who guard us. My attitude has changed. I did not choose to change. I was forced to.

UNEXPECTATIONS   As with everyone else, I think, I have had a varying degree of expectations my entire life. In my youngest memories, I believed in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy; I put my baby teeth under my pillow, fully expecting to be rewarded, as faithfully I was! HA, but alas, this was childhood!

"He guided them by the skillfulness of his hands" (Ps. 78:72). - From Streams in the Desert

When you are doubtful as to your course, submit your judgment absolutely to the Spirit of God, and ask Him to shut against you every door but the right one… then

Daddy's Empty Chair  A man's daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father.

When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside his bed.  The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit. "I guess you were expecting me, he said.

Cookies

The woman arrived at an airport one night
With several long hours before her flight.

She hunted for a book in the airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

Crossroads - Author Unknown

Sometimes, when I look back and think of all the could-have-beens in my life,

I often wonder: Did I make the right choice.... Did I miss a road sign....
Am I on the right track....

Packing Parachutes - By Charlie Plumb

Recently, I was sitting in a restaurant in Kansas City. A man about two tables away kept looking at me. I didn't recognize him. A few minutes into our meal he stood up and walked over to my table, looked down at me, pointed his finger in my face and said, "You're Captain Plumb."

Wonder All Around

Have you ever gotten a postcard from a place so beautiful that you stopped to imagine what living in a place like that must be like? Have you ever suspected that doing laundry or paying bills would somehow be a lot less tedious in Tahiti, Paris or the Himalayas?

There is beauty all around us, no matter where we live.

I Wish You Enough

At an airport I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together. They had announced her plane's departure and standing near the door, he said to his daughter, "I love you, I wish you enough". She said, "Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Daddy." They kissed good-bye and she left.

The Daffodil Principle by Jaroldeen Asplund Edwards

Just planting one bulb at a time, year after year, this unknown woman had forever changed the world in which she lived. She had created something of ineffable magnificence, beauty, and inspiration.

Triple Filter Test - Socrates

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about your friend?"

Spring to Joy! ~  VERLYN KLINKENBORG

You know what happens next. Spring comes at last. It makes a terrible story, because we've heard it so often, and yet it's the very best story any of us know, always worth repeating.

How to Make Yourself Happier - In 1986, L. Ron Hubbard wrote a poem which is a guide to happiness.
