Winters Retreat
Tiny sprigs of bright green
grass pushed hard against the frozen ground, breaking through earth’s
chilled crust to be warmed by the breath of spring, despite winter’s last
attempt at prolonging itself. But as had already been declared by the
witness of the groundhog’s shadow, spring had won her place and winter
must now retreat.
Tender new life had begun to show up everywhere, the solid white
background of what was left of winter, unwillingly thawing and becoming a
background for spring’s busy paintbrush; filled with all the colors and
scents of one’s wildest imagination.
There were to be seen the deepest of bluest, every shade of green, vivid
yellows, oranges, fiery reds, and shades and tones that only mother nature
herself has a name for. With tears that wept from every branch of every
tree, winter bid farewell to his sparkling, shimmering, wonderland of
white beauty, the slow thaw marking the trail of his regretful retreat.

As against having
beautiful workshops, studios, etc., one writes best in a cellar on a rainy
